Author Guidelines

The journal Ecosystems and Biomes welcomes high-quality manuscripts that contribute to theoretical, empirical, and applied understanding of ecosystems, biomes, and related environmental systems. Authors are requested to carefully follow the guidelines below to ensure smooth peer review and publication.


1. Types of Manuscripts Accepted

The journal accepts the following categories:

  • Original Research Articles – Empirical or experimental studies with novel findings

  • Review Articles – Comprehensive and critical reviews of current knowledge

  • Short Communications – Brief reports of significant preliminary results

  • Case Studies – Ecosystem- or biome-specific analyses with applied relevance

  • Perspectives / Policy Papers – Conceptual, methodological, or policy-oriented discussions


2. Manuscript Preparation

2.1 Language and Style

  • Manuscripts must be written in clear, concise English (British or American English consistently).

  • Authors whose first language is not English are encouraged to seek professional language editing.

2.2 File Format

  • Submit manuscripts in MS Word (.doc or .docx) format.

  • Use Times New Roman, 12-point font, double-spaced, with 1-inch margins.


3. Structure of the Manuscript

3.1 Title Page

The title page should include:

  • Title of the manuscript (concise and informative)

  • Full names of all authors

  • Institutional affiliations

  • Corresponding author’s email address

  • ORCID iDs (optional but encouraged)

3.2 Abstract

  • Maximum 250 words

  • Should briefly state the background, objectives, methodology, key results, and conclusions

  • Avoid citations in the abstract

3.3 Keywords

  • Provide 4–6 keywords not already used in the title

3.4 Main Text (for Research Articles)

Organize the manuscript as follows:

  1. Introduction

  2. Materials and Methods

  3. Results

  4. Discussion

  5. Conclusion

  6. Acknowledgements (if any)

  7. Conflict of Interest Statement

  8. References


4. Tables and Figures

  • Tables and figures should be cited in the text in sequential order.

  • Provide clear titles and legends.

  • Figures must be of high resolution (minimum 300 dpi).

  • Tables should be editable (not embedded as images).


5. Units, Symbols, and Nomenclature

  • Use SI units throughout the manuscript.

  • Scientific names of species should be italicized and written in full at first mention.


6. Ethical Considerations

  • Authors must confirm that the work is original and not under consideration elsewhere.

  • Studies involving humans, animals, or sensitive ecosystems must include appropriate ethical approvals.

  • Plagiarism, data fabrication, and image manipulation are strictly prohibited.


7. References (APA Format)

The journal strictly follows the APA (7th Edition) referencing style.

7.1 In-text Citations

  • Single author: (Smith, 2022)

  • Two authors: (Smith & Johnson, 2023)

  • Three or more authors: (Smith et al., 2024)

7.2 Reference List

  • References should be listed alphabetically at the end of the manuscript.

  • Use hanging indentation.

  • Include DOI where available.

8. Submission and Peer Review

  • All manuscripts undergo double-blind peer review.

  • Authors may be requested to revise manuscripts based on reviewer comments.

  • The editorial decision (accept, revise, or reject) is final.


9. Copyright and Open Access

  • Authors retain copyright of their work.

  • Published articles may be made available under open-access or subscription-based models, as per journal policy.

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • This submission meets the requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • This submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration.
  • All references have been checked for accuracy and completeness.
  • All tables and figures have been numbered and labeled.
  • Permission has been obtained to publish all photos, datasets and other material provided with this submission.
